ABOUT THE ARTIST

ALISON MEACHEM

ARTIST STATEMENT

I approach clay as a painter rather than a potter. My ceramic pieces evolve through experimentation with colour, texture and layered surfaces, creating what I think of as three-dimensional paintings. Rather than following traditional ceramic conventions, I enjoy allowing materials, process and chance to shape the final work.

A PARALLEL DIMENSIONS

I am a self-taught artist working across painting, ceramics and sculpture.

Rather than seeing these as separate disciplines, I think of them as parallel dimensions of the same creative practice. Ideas move freely between two and three dimensions, with colour, surface, material and process continually informing one another. Painting remains central to my work, while clay has opened new possibilities for experimentation, allowing me to explore form, texture and space in ways that extend beyond the canvas.
