INTRODUCTION

CERAMIC ARTIST | DEVON

I am a self-taught artist whose practice spans painting and ceramics. While my work has evolved from two-dimensional painting into clay, my approach remains rooted in a painter's way of seeing. Surface is central to my practice, and I use ceramic form as a three-dimensional ground on which to explore colour, texture, line and mark-making.

Working primarily with hand-built forms, I build surfaces through layers of slips, oxides and glazes, allowing the kiln to become an active part of the creative process. The dialogue between intention and unpredictability is fundamental to the work, with each firing revealing new possibilities and subtle variations that cannot be repeated.

My ceramics are not conceived as functional objects decorated with surface design. Instead, form and surface are developed together, creating sculptural works in which the ceramic body becomes an extension of the painted image. Each piece is individually made, reflecting an ongoing exploration of the relationship between painting, material and process.
