HOW I WORK

MY CREATIVE PROCESS

My work begins with surface. While clay provides the form, it is the surface that holds my attention, offering endless opportunities to explore colour, pattern, texture and mark-making.

I work primarily with hand-built ceramics, giving me the freedom to respond intuitively throughout the making process. Rather than applying decoration once a form has been completed, I develop surface design at every stage, allowing marks, layers and textures to emerge naturally as each piece evolves.

As a painter, I approach clay with the same visual language that informs my two-dimensional work. Slips, oxides and glazes become my palette, while the ceramic surface becomes a three-dimensional canvas on which ideas can be explored.

I enjoy working on several pieces simultaneously, developing them as part of a series rather than as individual objects. This way of working allows forms, surfaces and ideas to influence one another, creating a body of work connected by a shared visual language while ensuring that every piece retains its own unique character.
